BLUEBERRY BITE: Pickin’ on the Square offers more toe-tapping entertainment in air-conditioned comfort

PickinInCityCouncilChambers_6-9-2018Pickin’ on the Square will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8
in two locations: Nacogdoches City Hall’s City Council chambers, featuring roots folk music and Regions Bank’s community room featuring bluegrass music.

Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam with new friends
in air-conditioned comfort.

Anyone else looking to enjoy live music entertainment
in an air-conditioned venue is welcome, too.

Take a cool-down break during the festival day!

SFA planetarium to premiere new shows

Two new planetarium shows offering educational experiences for audiences of all ages will premiere Saturday, May 11, and run through June 22 at the Stephen F. Austin State University Cole STEM Building.

Geared toward children but open to all ages, “The Little Star That Could” tells the story of a star’s journey throughout the Solar System as viewers learn about the Milky Way. The show is at 3 p.m., and tickets are $3.

“This is an engaging and fun show that introduces children to the wonders of stars and planets,” said Ed Michaels, planetarium director.

“Journey to the Stars” takes visitors on a dazzling tour of space and time to experience the life and death of stars. It will show at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children, students, and faculty and staff with ID.

Tickets are available for purchase at the planetarium box office 30 minutes before each show.

The planetarium has shows every Saturday, with group shows available throughout the week by reservation.

POLICE INVESTIGATING AFTER DOLLAR GENERAL EMPLOYEES FIND SYRINGE STUCK INTO FOOD PRODUCT

On Monday morning Officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to the Dollar General located in the 4300 block of S.E. Stallings Dr after receiving a call from an employee stating a syringe with an unknown substance was found stuck into a food product on the previous day. Employees advised that after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday May 5th several unidentified subjects came into the store and began acting suspiciously. The employee advised that after the subjects left the store products were discovered damaged and she found a syringe with an unknown substance had been stuck into a pack of “Cup of Noodles”. Employees advised the items believed to have been tampered with were immediately removed from the shelves. On Monday afternoon further items were located that also appeared to have been tampered with. Those items were also immediately removed from the shelves. Police are asking that anyone that purchased food items during this time from this location be cautious and thoroughly inspect before consuming them.

The Nacogdoches Police Department are actively investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information about this crime to call 936-559-2607.
