Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business is hosting an Evening with Executives at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the McGee Building, Room 133, on the university campus.

Citizens National Bank CEO Brad Tidwell and his executive team will provide a “State of the Industry” address in which Tidwell will discuss his views of the banking industry and economy. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions after the address.

Dr. Todd Brown, associate dean of the Rusche College of Business, has helped organize the event and is looking forward to offering students a unique experience.

“This event is a great opportunity to give students real-world insights into banking and business in general. Furthermore, it allows students to network with business leaders,” Brown said.

Evening with Executives is part of the college’s Student Success Passport Program, which encourages students to hone their professional skills while competing for scholarships. The program works on a point system, and students can earn points by completing assignments and attending events.

“We are excited to incorporate this event into the Passport Program,” said Megan Sellers, coordinator for career success and corporate engagement in the College of Business. “It will be an amazing opportunity for students to network and hear authentic stories from these professionals.”

Several members of the music faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University will join together for a concert of music written for wind instruments at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The group, conducted by Fred J. Allen, director of bands, will feature Christina Guenther, flute; Chris Ayer, clarinet; and Charles Gavin, horn. Two new faculty members will also make their SFA debuts playing with the group. Kerry Hughes will perform on oboe and Lee Goodhew on bassoon.

The concert will include the “Petite Symphonie” by the French composer Charles Gounod. “It has a beautifully expressive flute part in the second movement,” Allen said. Also on the concert will be movements from Antonín Dvořák’s “Czech Suite.”

Joining these faculty members will be five upper-level music students.

“These pieces are a perfect opportunity to showcase not only faculty but also some of their top students,” Allen said.

The concert is a feature of the Cole Performing Arts Series.

Choice seating is still available for the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts’ presentation of Julian Sands in “A Celebration of Harold Pinter” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

The show opens the 2016-17 season of the College of Fine Arts’ University Series. Sands is well known to audiences from more than 100 film and television appearances. His performance of the works of Nobel Prize-winning playwright and poet Pinter was nominated for a 2013 Drama Desk Award. The performance contains mature language.

Prior to the performance, Slade Billew, assistant professor of theatre, will present an informative talk about Pinter at 7 p.m. in Griffith Gallery. The gallery is located across the hall from Turner Auditorium, which is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Drive. The audience is invited back to the gallery for a post-performance reception to meet the performer and to honor the event’s corporate sponsor, Commercial Bank of Texas.

Stephen F. Austin State University officials and staff members are offering assistance to students displaced by the abrupt closure of ITT Technical Institute’s resident campuses.

“SFA will work with ITT Tech students to determine how to use their credits,” said Monique Cossich, executive director of enrollment management in SFA’s Office of Admissions. “If a student wants to enroll for the current fall semester, he or she needs to contact our office as soon as possible because the deadline for fall registration is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. We will work with the student in regard to obstacles he or she might experience, such as difficulty in getting transcripts.”

Last week, ITT Educational Services Inc. announced it would discontinue operations of its ITT Technical Institutes, in line with a U.S. Department of Education directive, according to an article by Reuters. The closure will affect more than 8,000 employees and approximately 40,000 students.

“We want students to feel comfortable contacting us and letting us help them in this stressful time,” Cossich said. “Students also may be interested in applying for spring 2017, which we can help them facilitate.”

Transferring students are, of course, welcome to enroll in any degree plan offered through SFA’s six colleges, though Cossich said SFA’s Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences is a good choice for ITT Tech students affected by the closure.

“The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences allows students to apply credits earned through vocational or technical programs, community college credits, military training and occupational licensure or certifications toward the degree. Many of the ITT Tech students will fall into one of these categories and thus could benefit from this degree program,” Cossich said.
