Recent tests of the City of Nacogdoches’ drinking water supply indicate there is no problem with lead and copper in the public water system. This outcome is a result of a testing program of approximately 30 sites required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). These procedures are in place in order to monitor drinking water for specific contaminants which typically come from private plumbing lines and fixtures. City wide testing for lead and copper occurs every 3 years. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets EPA health standards.

“It is crucial we continue to monitor the public water system in order to continue to inform the public about the superior water system in place throughout the City of Nacogdoches,” City of Nacogdoches City Engineer, Steve Bartlett said.

Unfortunately, the City of Nacogdoches failed to meet the deadline to submit this information to the TECQ by September 30, 2016. Results were instead submitted in November 2016.

“In the future, the City of Nacogdoches will ensure all monitoring tests are completed and submitted to TCEQ in a timely manner,” City Manager, Jim Jeffers said. “This was an administrative error which has resulted in having to send notices in the water bills, but our water remains safe to drink and use as normal.”

City officials corrected the error as soon as it was discovered and plan to ensure all tests are submitted on time to prevent concern and policy violations in the future.
