Nacogdoches Murder press release with update

Nacogdoches, Tx (March 20, 2025)
NPD Officers and Investigators are still investigating a shooting today that resulted in a man being transported to an out of town medical facility for a higher level of care.
Officers responded to N. Popp Street in Nacogdoches at approximately1 pm on Thursday afternoon in reference to neighbors hearing what sounded like gunshots.
Officers arrived to find a man in the front yard of a residence with at least two gunshot wounds. The victim was able to provide details to officers about the incident before being transported by EMS. The victim is currently listed in Critical Condition.
Investigators arrested Hernon Cuarenta, 17, of Nacogdoches on Aggravated Assault and Theft of a Firearm, both felonies. Cuarenta is currently in the Nacogdoches County jail.

Update:
Nacogdoches Tx (March 21, 2025)

Nacogdoches Police investigators are still conducting follow up on the shooting yesterday afternoon of a subject on N. Popp St. in Nacogdoches.
The victim in the shooting had been transferred to a Tyler area hospital for critical surgery, but has since passed away. NPD was notified during the night that the subject died of his injuries. The deceased is identified as Gerber Danilo Panteleon-Palencia, 33, of Nashville, TN. Panteleon-Palencia was at the address in Nacogdoches visiting family when the shooting took place. The charge of aggravated assault on Hernan Cuarenta has been upgraded to first-degree murder. Cuarenta is being held in the Nacogdoches County jail.
Any additional information will be released when it becomes available.

UTS-SFA police department gains donation from the Nacogdoches Law Enforcement Foundation

sfaThe Nacogdoches Law Enforcement Foundation, a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting local law enforcement agencies, approved approximately $150,000 in funding for equipment and training. As part of the initiative, the foundation gifted The University of Texas System Police Department at Stephen F. Austin State University 30 duty tourniquets with carriers and two automated external defibrillators for new patrol vehicles. The foundation was incorporated in March 2022 and is headed by Korey Kahler, a lecturer of computer science at SFA. Pictured, from left, are Roy Patterson Jr., patrol sergeant; Eleno Adame, CID corporal; Elijah Lenderman, police officer II; Amanda Kennedy, assistant chief of police; Dusty Jones, CID corporal; Whitney Mask, corporal; Douglass Mask, patrol lieutenant; and Kahler.

PRESS RELEASE: SUSPECT ADMITTED GUILT IN SHOOTING OF NACOGDOCHES POLICE OFFICER, RECEIVES 50-YEAR SENTENCE

(March 19, 2025) – in the 420th District Court of Nacogdoches, Gabriel Ramirez, a 20-year-old resident of Nacogdoches, Texas, pleaded guilty to charges related to the shooting of a Nacogdoches Police Officer in December 2023. He has been sentenced to 50 years in prison. We extend our gratitude to the Nacogdoches District Attorney’s Office for their extensive efforts in preparing for this trial.
