Celebrating the Blueberry Festival at the Public Library
The Nacogdoches Public Library invites the community and visitors to celebrate the Blueberry Festival with two fun and free workshops in the days leading up to the Festival. On Thursday, June 8th at 5:30 p.m. join library staff for crepe making lessons at Build a Better Blueberry Crepe, and on Friday, June 9th at 3:30 p.m. drop in for a make and take workshop, Best Blueberry Body Scrub. STEAM for Kids at the Public Library
The Nacogdoches Public Library invites kids ages 7-11 to attend STEAM for Kids on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. beginning on June 8th. Summer STEAM for Kids will be devoted to the art of filmmaking. Participants will investigate types of cameras, types of videos, enhancing videos through lighting and sound, and how to edit and share our videos. Each program will have a different lesson so children can participate as they are able.
STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. By offering STEAM classes, the public library strives to provide an environment where children can become engaged in fun, hands-on learning activities in an informal setting. Makerspace at the Public Library
The Nacogdoches Public Library invites community members ages 10 and up to Makerspace Mondays, beginning June 5th at 5:30 p.m. This summer every Monday will be devoted to movie making in a wide variety of formats. Participants will tackle stop motion animation, live action stop motion, shooting techniques, scripting, acting, editing, green screen, and more. Google Sheets & Docs
Nacogdoches Public Library will offer a free computer class called Google Sheets & Docs on Wednesday, June 7th at 5:30 pm. The class will introduce students to the free on-line application. Google Sheets & Docs offer many common document and spreadsheet features, but work is stored online and can be accessed from any Internet-accessible computer or laptop. It is great for working in groups or working from multiple locations. The class is free, but some computer experience is required. Cinema en Español
Nacogdoches Public Library will add a special movie to its Movie Night repertoire, the first in a soon-to-be Spanish-language movie series. The event will feature free popcorn, light snacks and a Selena-Look-a-Like and Dance Contest. Selena was the talented, young Tejano singer whose life was cut short. While it has been over 20 years since her death, she remains hugely popular, even among fans who had not been born when she died. The movie event will be held Saturday, June 17th at 6:30 pm. The event is open to all ages, but attendance is limited. Tickets to this free event may be obtained at the check-out desk of the public library. This photograph of downtown Nacogdoches by Ryan Russell is among the images available on postcards and notecards to be sold in an art scholarship fundraiser sponsored by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts.
Local photographers provided the images for the eight different designs featured on the 5-by-4½-inch notecards with envelopes and the 4-by-6-inch postcards that will be available for purchase during the Texas Blueberry Festival on June 10.
“The FVA is grateful to the talented artists and supportive people who generously allowed us to use their artworks to benefit this art scholarship fundraiser,” said Jean Stephens, FVA president.
Available images include:

Photographer Christopher Talbot’s image of the historic Zion Hill Baptist Church windows is featured on postcards and notecards to be sold in an art scholarship fundraiser sponsored by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts.
Notecards are $3 each, or four for $10 or eight for $20. Postcards are $1 each, or four for $3 or eight for $6.
FVA volunteers will sell the cards during the Blueberry Festival at the organization’s booth located in front of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House on Main Street. Gumbo, blueberry tea and blueberry muffins will also be sold. All proceeds will benefit scholarships awarded through the SFA School of Art.
Following the festival, the cards can be purchased at Cole Art Center. For additional information, call (936) 468-6557.
