Critical fire weather and extremely dry fuel conditions have increased the fire potential for much of east Texas today, including Nacogdoches County. In an effort to disseminate factual, real-time information, Nacogdoches County Emergency Management strongly encourages residents to register for the NacWise alert system.
NacWise Alert is a mass notification service that allows the county and City of Nacogdoches to send direct messages to its users in emergency situations. Citizens can register at no cost online at www.nacwise.com or by calling HyperReach at 936-715-3322 and following the prompts. Alerts are sent via phone calls, text messages and/or emails. TTY/TDD messages for hearing impaired as well as Spanish translated alerts are also available.
Very High fire danger is forecasted for the area due to critical weather conditions and extremely dry timber vegetation. Increased wind speeds associated with Tropical Storm Harold will contribute to worsening conditions. Any ignition that occurs may result in wildfires that burn intensely, with dangerous fire behaviors resistant to suppression efforts. Should evacuations be deemed necessary, NacWise alerts will be used to inform the public.
