College-bound students and their families are invited to Stephen F. Austin State University’s in-person, on-campus Showcase Saturday event June 24, which offers participants a unique opportunity to experience life as a Lumberjack.
“There’s nothing like the Lumberjack experience on a beautiful campus in the oldest town in Texas,” said Gina Oglesbee, SFA interim president. “Showcase Saturday offers prospective students and their families the opportunity to visit with our SFA family and learn how we provide our students with the resources they need to succeed, make new connections and determine a rewarding career path.”
Showcase Saturday provides an opportunity for college-bound students to spend a day experiencing university life firsthand, touring the campus and having all their college questions answered.
Registration and check-in will begin at 10 a.m. in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Plaza. Several optional early-bird sessions, including a student services fair and campus tours, will be ongoing between check-in and the day’s opening program, which is scheduled for 11 a.m.
“Exploring academic programs, meeting current students, faculty and staff, and touring the campus are just a few of the incredible experiences we have planned for our guests,” said Courtney Burns, assistant director of first-year initiatives in SFA’s Office of Admissions. “Our goal is for our prospective students and families to leave Showcase Saturday with fewer questions than when they arrived and feel excited and prepared as they take the next steps of pursuing higher education.”
During the opening program, students will attend presentations by college representatives based on their academic major of interest.
Come-and-go events will run from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. These include tours of residence halls and the Student Recreation Center as well as the #JacksGetInvolved student organization fair in the student center plaza. A college academic fair will be held from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. in the student center atrium.
Mock classroom sessions will run from 1:10 to 2:30 p.m. to give participants a glimpse of a university class led by top-notch faculty members. Locations for these sessions will be announced during the welcome session.
“We are looking forward to hosting you, and we can’t wait to show you what makes SFA such a special place,” said Dr. Lee Furbeck, vice president for enrollment management.
In addition to a high-energy Lumberjack experience, participating prospective students will receive a free SFA T-shirt after completing a program evaluation form.
