The American Cancer Society is seeking the participation of the Stephen F. Austin State University community to support Relay For Life of Nacogdoches County.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national fundraising event designed to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and empower others to fight back against a disease that takes too much.
Teams of about eight to 15 take turns walking a path, and because cancer never sleeps, the event lasts overnight. Team captains are responsible for setting a team fundraising goal and recruiting participants for the night’s event. Teams also can decorate a booth, sell fundraising items, and cheer on survivors and others dedicated to raising cancer awareness.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to start or join a team to raise awareness of the disease in the local community.
“SFA has a unique opportunity to show its support for the Nacogdoches community and for a great cause by participating in Relay For Life,” said Kayli Steger, Relay For Life committee member.
“Through organizing a team, purchasing a luminaria to honor a loved one, or showing up to the event to cheer on survivors and show your support, we can send a message to cancer survivors that we care.”
Participants will enjoy a high-energy night of live music and entertainment and may purchase food and other items sold to benefit the American Cancer Society. Powerful events like the survivor’s walk and the luminaria ceremony to honor loved ones lost to cancer bond the community in fighting back against the disease.
Relay For Life will be held from 7 p.m. March 4 to 7 a.m. March 5 at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center.
