1918 – 2011

     Graveside service for Veida Axley, age 92, of Nacogdoches will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Sunset Memorial Park, Nacogdoches. Dr. Bill Gandin of First United Methodist Church will officiate.

     Veida died Saturday evening, February 5, 2011, in Nacogdoches. She was born December 28, 1918, in Troup, Texas, and graduated from Alto High School in 1938. She married Branch Axley in 1955 and then moved to Nacogdoches.

     She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Open Door Sunday School Class, and Circle VII. She was a longtime member of the Heritage Club and member of the original “Coffee Drinkers.” She spent countless hours volunteering for Nacogdoches at The Convention and Visitors Bureau.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Branch Lee Axley, and daughters, Sharon Lee Axley and Kay Axley Musgrave.

     Survivors include her daughters, Connie Aman of Houston, Texas, and Linda Cower and husband, John Cower of Niles, Michigan; grandchildren, Ceburn Musgrave of San Antonio, Texas, Jim Aman of Houston, Laurie Galloway and husband, Kevin, of San Antonio, Lt. Commander Brent Cower, US Navy, and wife, Rebecca, of Lutz, Florida, Kathryn Lee Cower of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Branch Cower of Kerrville, Texas; and great-grandsons, James and Joe Galloway, of San Antonio, and Jack and Thomas Cower of Lutz, Fl.
