The Texas Municipal League announced TML Board member, Mayor Shelley Brophy has been appointed to the TML Resolutions Committee. The committee will meet next month at the TML Annual Conference and Exhibition in Fort Worth. The decisions made by this committee will have significant implications for all Texas cities and will play a crucial role in protecting municipal authority in the upcoming legislative session.

Shelley Brophy became Mayor of Nacogdoches after having served four terms as a member of the City Council. An accomplished chef and former restaurateur, she is now the owner of Living Well Counseling & Coaching offering life coaching and health and wellness coaching services. Currently, she serves on the Nacogdoches County Appraisal District Board, the Deep East Texas Council of Governments Board, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music Board, the Hospice of Deep East Texas Board, the Texas Municipal League Blue Ribbon Policy Committee and is a member of the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce.

“We are proud of our home in Nacogdoches and it is so important to preserve the unique character of each community, especially this one,” Brophy said. “Therefore we want to advocate for the ability for the City of Nacogdoches to make it’s own decisions for our community–not those in Austin or at the federal level. One size does not fit all.”

TML is a voluntary association of cities that was organized in 1913 and represents 98% of Texas’ urban population through its 1,159 member cities. Guided by its purpose statement – Empowering Texas cities to serve their citizens-the League helps city leaders meet the ever-changing challenges of governance.
