Several members of the Nacogdoches Jaycees will volunteer with Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful to collect recycled items during Techcycle Saturday. During the event, the Jaycees will also collect monetary donations to support their Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund through their coin collection fundraiser.
The Nacogdoches Jaycees have set up monetary donation collection stations at Austin Bank, 3120 North St., and Commercial Bank of Texas, 215 E Main St., and will collect monetary donations for the Nacogdoches Jaycees Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund through the end of September.
“Look for the five gallon buckets and donate spare change,” said Nacogdoches Jaycees President Derek Snyder, “but it’s not just about collecting change; it’s about trying to make a change and help people.”
“I’m excited to partner with the Jaycees to collect technology recycling and support their fundraising efforts to benefit Hurricane Harvey relief,” said KNB Executive Director Katie Blevins.
Items accepted for recycling are computers, including towers, flat screen monitors and laptops, hard drives, printers, cables, mice, keyboards, DVD/VCR players, projectors, radios, telephones, cell phones, networking equipment/routers, copiers, fax machines and cords/wires.Items not accepted include TVs, CRT monitors, major appliances, such as washers, dryers and refrigerators, cameras, small household appliances, such as blenders, toasters, coffee makers and vacuum cleaners, ink and toner cartridges. Best Buy in Lufkin will accept TVs for recycling for a fee.
Electronics recycling is also accepted at Staples, 4608 North St. Acceptable items include computers, monitors, laptops, printers and other items. Items larger than a printer or computer monitor will not be accepted. Many items, such as TVs other electronics, may be recycled at the Habitat for Humanity Restore, 2219 South St.
