International Games Day at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library will join over a thousand libraries around the world on November 19, 2016, for the ninth annual celebration of gaming in libraries – International Games Day @ Your Library. Like so many other libraries across the country and around the world, the public library will offer a special gaming program suitable for the whole family.
On Saturday, November 19th from noon until 2:00 p.m., the Public Library will celebrate gaming with an open game time, including the more than 40 tabletop games in the library’s collection, as well as Xbox gaming, and more. The event is free and no registration is required.
International Games Day @ your library is an international initiative supported by the American Library Association, the Australian Library and Information Association, and Nordic Game Day. Beneficial Insects Workshop at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites the community to a workshop entitled “Beneficial Insects” on Saturday, November 19th at 2:30 p.m. Come learn about what different kinds of insects can be put to good use in the garden, and what you can plant to give them a habitat they’ll never want to leave. Seed Swap at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites the community to join fellow gardeners and interested parties for the 2nd Annual Nacogdoches Seed Swap as we gather to share vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, along with our best tips and resources. Feel free to bring seeds to share from your own garden or store bought seeds from past seasons. The event will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 5:30 p.m. and is a collaboration between the Public Library and Resilient Nacogdoches. “The Seed Swap is a wonderful opportunity to connect and encourage fellow gardeners,” says Resilient Nacogdoches representative, Jocelyn Moore. “Not only will you discover new seed varieties, you may also find some new friends!” If older seeds have been stored in a cool, dry, and dark location, most will remain viable for many years. Stick around afterwards for a film screening of The Permaculture Orchard. “The Permaculture Orchard documentary will offer a fresh take on growing fruit trees and demonstrates the benefits of moving towards polyculture systems in our orchards and gardens,” says Moore. The program fits into a new workshop series on gardening and wellness that has been spearheaded by library staff. “We have been doing a series of classes geared towards gardening, and we’re really happy to host the seed swap as a great way to end the year and get the community prepared for gardening next spring,” says Elia Ali, library staffer and swap coordinator. “We’re happy to partner with other members and organizations of the community to help foster what we hope will become a tradition of sharing seeds and knowledge.” The event is free of charge, as are all public library programs.

Microsoft Excel Classes at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library will offer free Microsoft Excel classes on December 6th and December 7th. Part I will be an introduction to the menu, formula writing and formatting. Part II will feature file organization, using multiple sheets and special features. Both sessions are from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Please call 559-2970 to register.
