Makerspace for Parents at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites parents and educators to a Makerspace workshop on Wednesday, September 21st at 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn some easy, fun and educational maker projects that can be done at home. The library will provide examples and supplies for hands-on practice to get the hang of making slime, chalk, giant bubbles, play dough and more. There will also be time for resource and idea sharing. STEAM 4 KIDS: Designing with Code at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites children ages 7 to 11 to participate in a STEAM 4 KIDS program on Thursday, September22nd at 5:30 p.m. Participants will build on previous sessions and discover even more ways to use the computer programming language, Scratch. In this class, kids’ creativity will take flight as they design their own interactive stories and games on the computer. Please call 559-2970 to register.
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is excited to offer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) programs for children ages 7-11 this Fall. By offering such programming, the public library strives to provide an informal environment where children can become engaged in fun, hands-on learning activities in the STEAM disciplines. STEAM programs will be offered every Thursday from 5:30 – 6:30pm. All programming is free to the public, but we ask that you register ahead of time so we will be prepared with adequate materials.

Makerspace: Blacklight Painting at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites ages 10 and up to a Makerspace workshop on Friday, September 23rd at 5:30 p.m. Participants will experience a unique approach to art making mixing special paint that will glow under blacklights. Human Hungry Hippos at Judy B. McDonald Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites tweens and teens ages10-17 to a wacky athletic event, Human Hungry Hippos, on Wednesday, September 28th at 4:30 p.m. Participants will take on the role of the hippos in a large scale human version of the classic board game, Hungry, Hungry Hippos. “We tried a number of new programs this summer, and this was one of the most fun” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “It’s a simple concept, using just scooter boards, plastic balls and baskets, but it’s as hilarious as it is challenging.” Please call 936-559-2970 to register.

Spanish Computer Classes at the Public Library
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library will offer free computer classes in Spanish. Meet the Computer will be offered on September 23rd and Internet & Email will be offered on September 30th. Both classes will be held from 10 am to noon. Please call 559-2970 to register for these classes.

A La Noche Cenamos (Dinner Tonight series) at the Public Library
Claudann Jones of the Texas A&M Agriculture Extension Office will offer a free cooking class (A La Noche Cenamos) at the Judy B. McDonald Public Library on Saturday, October 8th at 2:30 pm. The class focuses on making traditional ethnic foods healthier and more economical. This month’s feature will be Mediterranean foods.
A La Noche Cenamos (Dinner Tonight) is part of the bilingual programs offered by the public library; therefore, instructions will be given in English and Spanish.
