At approximately 11:54 p.m. last night, two suspects robbed the Chicken Express on North University Drive at gunpoint. The suspects entered the store and one displayed a handgun. One of the suspects also assaulted an employee. The employee sustained non-life threatening injuries that did not require immediate medical treatment.
The suspects took an undetermined amount of cash and fled the store on foot, in an easterly direction behind the building. A witness reported seeing two persons, possibly the suspects, enter a wooded area near the store. A perimeter was established in an area between Cardinal Street and East Starr Avenue and the Nacogdoches SWAT team was notified. They conducted a coordinated ground search of this area. This area is heavily wooded with very thick vegetation. This search, using officers and night vision equipment, took almost four hours to complete. No suspects were located in the search, which ended at approximately 4:30 this morning. Participating in the search were NPD officers and officers with the SFASU Police and Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Department. The Nacogdoches Fire Department and County EMS also responded and stood by.
The suspects are still at large and are described as two black males, both with slender build. Any person with information regarding this case should call Nacogdoches Crime Stoppers at 560-INFO (560-4636) or NPD at 559-2607.
