Several Stephen F. Austin State University students traveled to Dallas and Fort Worth last week to visit fashion businesses and meet with industry professionals as part of SFA’s Fashion Merchandising Club’s annual field trip, which is referred to as “Tour Day.”
Students visited Dillard’s Distribution Center, a&bé Bridal Shop and Fossil World Headquarters.
“The trip teaches students about various career opportunities in the fashion industry as well as different levels of the fashion business — from wholesale and distribution to buying and retailing,” said Jamie Cupit, fashion merchandising instructor in SFA’s School of Human Sciences. “On this particular trip, students learned about the logistics of the fashion business and the merchandise distribution processes. They also learned more about the bridal business and how buying, merchandising and customer experiences are completely different from the processes that take place in apparel.”
Tour Day concluded with an alumni dinner where students visited with program graduates about their field experiences.
