Mayor Roger Van Horn and County Judge Mike Perry will give a “State of the City and County” address at the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce membership meeting at noon on Thursday, March 24 at Austin Hall, 4603 North St. Note the move to Thursday for the Chamber’s monthly meeting will dodge the Good Friday holiday.
“We are very fortunate in Nacogdoches to have elected officials who work together very effectively for the benefit of our community,” said Dr. Adam Peck, Chamber program chair. “I always look forward to hearing about their goals and plans to make Nacogdoches even better.”
Mayor Van Horn moved to Nacogdoches in 1975. He is originally from Tulsa, Okla. After attending college and graduate school he spent five years in U.S. Army. Van Horn practiced general family dentistry for more than 35 years in Nacogdoches until retirement last year. He served as Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce President in 1987, on the Board of Directors of Fredonia State Bank and the Advisory Board of BancorpSouth. He was first elected as mayor in 2007 and re-elected each two-year term through 2015.
Judge Perry was born and raised in Nacogdoches and graduated NHS in 1955. He and Betty Kendrick married in 1957 and have four children. Perry opened his dealership business in 1976 and ran the business until 1996 when he turned the businesses over to his sons. He served as a City commissioner from 1974 to 1980 and again from 1984 to 1990. Perry was elected Nacogdoches County Judge for the 2015-2019 term but took office in April of 2014 when the former County Judge left the office.
The information they will present is vital for all local businesses, and the luncheon serves as the Nacogdoches County Chamber’s monthly membership meeting. All are invited to attend and stay informed of what is happening in the area.
Registration is requested by noon, Tuesday, March 22. Lunch is $16. Find the secure “pay online and register” option in Hot News at www.nacogdoches.org or call 936-560-5533.
