Capt. Robert K. Barnett

Capt. Robert K. Barnett, Retired, born September 21, 1931, in Huntington, Texas, passed away on August 26, 2014 in Garrison, Texas.
He was “Marine Corps Proud,” having served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Retirinf from the Corps after 21 years, 4 months, 29 days, and 8 hours, he went to work for Sears in Nacogdoches. He began in the service departemtn of the local store and was quickly promoted to service manager and then later district service manager for the Dallas region.
He was an active member of Holly Springs Baptist Church for many years. He loved studying God’s word and particularly enjoyed his Sunday School class.
In his years of retirement he and his wife Ellen”Micki” loved to play golf. He claimed, and had witnesses to, seven “hole-in-ones. They enjoyed traveling and seeing as much of the great country as they could.
His survivors include his children, David Keith Barnett of Commerce City, Colorado, Cheryl Denise Russell and husband Ken of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Michael Dwane Barnett and wife Becky of Montgomery, Texas; grandhildren, Jennifer Nichole Barnett, Emily Elaine Barnett, and Logan Kade Russell; and step-children, Vickie Wright of Lufkin, Texas, Nancy Hudgins and husband Bud of Gilmer, Texas, Donna Deason and husband Robert of Nacogdoches, Texas, Theresa Bryan and husbnad John of Appleby, Doyle Scroggins and wife Wanda of Melrose, Texas, Dennis Scroggins of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Blaine Scroggins and wife Dorothy of Liberty, Texas.
In addition to his parents, he was prceded in death by his siblings, William H. Barnett, Thelma Roesler, Birdie Lee Powell, Leroy Barnett, Annie Bell Ricks, Toynet Poland, and Maxwell D. Barnett.
Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Holly Springs Baptist Church, located at 16928 North U.S. Hwy. 59 (north of Appleby) with Bro. Homer Murray and Dr. Lee Norman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, located at 5127 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
