Police: Human remains discovered between Nacogdoches and Douglass

     At approximately 6:00 p.m. today (10/29/2010) the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting the discovery of human remains. The skeletal remains were discovered in a densely wooded area adjacent to State Highway 21 between Nacogdoches and Douglass.

     Although more extensive testing will be necessary before a positive identification can be made, we have good reason to believe that the remains are those of Torchie Boyd, a white female that went missing approximately two years ago. At the time of her disappearance, Ms. Boyd had been living with her common law spouse at J & S Campground, located on the north end of Lake Nacogdoches and only a few miles from where the remains were found today. On the same day that Ms. Boyd was originally reported missing, her common law spouse had been seen walking from Lake Nacogdoches to Goodman Bridge, where his body was later discovered hanging from a tree along the riverbank. That death was ruled a suicide. My investigators and I have long suspected that the spouse was somehow responsible for Ms. Boyd’s disappearance.

     Due to the length of time that these remains have been exposed to the elements, results from testing may take an extensive amount of time. However, given the close proximity of the location of these remains to the location she was last seen, the fact that the remains appear to have been exposed to the elements for approximately the same amount of time that Ms. Boyd has been reported missing, and confirmation of tentative identifiers that family members were able to provide to my office about Ms. Boyd, it appears very likely that we have finally located Torchie Boyd.
