The Nacogdoches Police Department investigated an aggravated robbery and related auto crash last night on North Street.
The NPD received a call at 10:22 PM from Sunshine Food Mart, located in the 2000 block of North Street, reporting a vehicle being stolen. It was determined that a 26 year old female had parked her vehicle in front of the store and went inside, leaving the vehicle running. While inside, she observed a white male suspect enter her vehicle without permission. The victim went outside and attempted to open the door of her vehicle and the suspect put the vehicle in gear and struck the victim while backing up, knocking her to the ground. The suspect then fled the store northbound on North Street in the stolen vehicle. The victim in this case was transported to the hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Approximately one minute after the call on the robbery, a major automobile crash was reported to police in the 3000 block of North Street. Officers found that the vehicle reported stolen from Sunshine Food Mart had struck a 2001 Ford Escape driven by Jack Curran, age 22 of Nacogdoches, that was northbound on North Street and a 2004 Nissan Xterra, driven by Martin Cobos, age 73 of Nacogdoches that was also northbound. The stolen vehicle continued and struck a utility pole and overturned.
The driver of the vehicle that was reported stolen was identified as Chad Carney, age 32 of Nacogdoches. He was transported to a local hospital and admitted with serious injuries.
Martin Cobos was taken to a hospital by private vehicle for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
These cases are still under investigation and multiple charges are pending at this time.
