Pre Labor Day STEP

The Nacogdoches Police Department will again be participating in an enforcement wave of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). The Police Department participates in STEP throughout the year in conjunction with TxDOT and other law enforcement agencies across the state.

The upcoming enforcement wave is for the Labor Day holiday and officers will be highly visible from August 19 thru September 5. Officers will be targeting seatbelt usage, speed, child safety seat usage and other moving violations.

“We always hope to raise awareness and slow drivers down during these periods,” Nacogdoches Police Lt. Dan Taravella said. “The bottom line is that if we can get more people in seatbelts, more kids in car seats and slow drivers down, then we all benefit.”

STEP is conducted primarily during high traffic holiday times. The Nacogdoches Police Department will also be conducting another railroad crossing safety enforcement event and a red light enforcement during the same time frame.

“All of these efforts are aimed at raising awareness, enforcing these violations and hoping that we can get the message out to drivers before it’s too late. We can all make our roads and streets safer,” Taravella said.
