One Response to Tommie Jan Lowery Award

I am so happy to read about the Tommie Jan Lowery Award at Stephen F. Austin State University which was recently presented to Josi Moore of Tyler, mostly because I knew Ms Lowery when she was a fellow student at the University of Virginia for her first semester of graduate school.

Being a true Texan, I suspect, Ms Lowery returned to her home state to finish graduate school. She is one of those people, who, when you once know her, she is not easily forgotten, so it was a treat to find this bit of information about her on the internet.

So many bits of the notice about the award interested me. First, before my marriage my family name was “Moore.” Tyler, TX, rings a special bell for all in my family, since my older daughter has been treated in Tyler a number of times for damage done to her face when she was kicked by a horse some years ago.

Congratulations, Tommie Jan, on all you have accomplished since our paths crossed in
the 1950s. My own life has been much more under the radar, but I am a happy grandmother with two daughters and 3 grandchildren who are all “the best.”

I now live with my younger daughter, Emily Cowan, and her family in the NC mountains. Emily’s two sons, aged 14 and 9, are bright and talented (a grandma’s pride of course) but they really do excel in school, and both love every opportunity they have to be on stage. My older daughter, Liza, lives close by, and her daughter Grace is also a treasure.

I would love to hear from you if you have time to respond to this email.
