NACOGDOCHES POLICE UNIT INVOLVED IN MAJOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

     UPDATE: Sergeant Keith Hawkins remains in a Tyler Hospital in serious but stable condition. An account to assist the family with travel and lodging expenses has been established at Bancorpsouth, under the name “Sergeant Hawkins Benefit Fund.”

     A City of Nacogdoches Police car was involved in a major automobile crash early this morning at the intersection of South Street and West Seale.

     The crash was reported at 12:19 AM. The police vehicle, a 2008 Ford Police Interceptor, was being operated by Sergeant Keith Hawkins. Sgt. Hawkins sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital. He was later transferred to a Tyler, Texas hospital for treatment of his injuries.

     The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol.
